The slot floor keeps one schedule: 10:00 a.m. to midnight, every day, year round. The Player's Lounge and Café on the same floor runs shorter hours, opening at 10 a.m. every day. Closing is at 9 p.m. on Sunday and Monday to Thursday, and at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Straight-line distances from the slots: Peterborough 12 km, Lindsay 32 km, Cobourg 33 km, Oshawa 51 km and Toronto 101 km. Port Hope reads 30 km and Lakefield 26 km. The Peterborough casino on Fisher Drive is a short straight line away, at 7.7 km.

Arriving by car
Parking at the slots is complimentary. The venue at 1382 County Road 28 is reached by car, since no published bus route, shuttle or taxi stand serves it. The Peterborough casino does get daily service from Peterborough Transit Route 5 The Parkway, at the stop "Fisher at Shorelines Casino".
Camping is not allowed on site. Kawartha Downs suggests campgrounds in the area instead. They are Emily Provincial Park in Omemee, Beavermead Park and Kawartha Trails Resort in Peterborough, and Bailey's Bay in Selwyn. No hotel stands at Kawartha Downs either; one appears only as a proposal in the track's revitalization plan. A person with a disability may enter with a support person.

The floor and the door
The floor holds 150 slots and no live or electronic table games. Great Canadian Rewards is the operator's loyalty card, and its Comp Dollars can be used at these slots. Members must be 19 or older.
Any guest who looks younger than 30 can be asked for ID by Great Canadian. The ID must be government-issued, carry a photo and be shown as the original physical document; a second piece may also be requested. The Player's Lounge on the floor is 19 plus, with ID required. No cannabis is allowed anywhere on the property, and smoking or vaping is confined to designated areas.

The racetrack around the slots
The slots share the property with a harness racetrack. Harness racing has drawn families there for five decades, and Kawartha Downs marked its 50th anniversary in 2022. Racing runs in a summer season, with the schedule on the harness racing page of kawarthadowns.com. Admission to the races is free.
On the slots floor, the Player's Lounge and Café offers light refreshments, a casual menu and a fully licensed bar. The Grandstand Dining Room is on the second floor of the grandstand; its buffet is served only in the racing season. Kawartha Downs also rents the Event Centre for weddings, parties and corporate events, plus The Loft, a renovated private room.

Opened on October 15, 2018, under Great Canadian, Shorelines Casino Peterborough stands at 3800 Fisher Drive. It has over 500 slots and electronic table games, 12 live table games, high-limit slots and a sports betting kiosk. Hours for its live tables are 4 p.m. to midnight Monday to Thursday, noon to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to midnight Sunday. Route 5 The Parkway stops there every day.
Live tables are the reason to choose Fisher Drive. The track suits a visitor who wants a slots-only floor on County Road 28.

The gaming site at Kawartha Downs first opened in November 1999. Racing at the track is older, going back to the annual fall fair. Every form of casino gaming in Ontario falls under OLG, which conducts and manages it. Daily operation of each site belongs to private service providers, and the AGCO acts as their regulator. Here the slots run under OLG's Optional Slots at Racetracks Program, launched in 2019.

The regulated online gambling market in Ontario opened April 4, 2022; iGaming Ontario handles conduct and management, and the AGCO regulates. Ontario allows a private online casino only when two requirements are met: AGCO registration, plus a signed iGaming Ontario operating agreement. The igamingontario.ca directory lists every regulated site. OLG, the provincial agency, runs OLG.ca as its online casino.
